Most business owners overestimate what one good interaction can accomplish.
One email. One LinkedIn conversation. One introduction at a networking event. We hope it will be memorable enough to create trust and move someone to act.
Usually, it isn’t.
The 7-11-4 framework offers a useful way to think about that reality: roughly seven hours of exposure, eleven interactions, and four different places or channels before familiarity begins to feel like trust.
The exact numbers are better treated as a framework than a universal law. Google’s Zero Moment of Truth research did find that the average shopper used 10.4 information sources when making a purchase decision. Buyers explore before they commit.
That makes follow-up less about persistence and more about presence.
If you meet someone at a WRN event, the next step does not need to be another pitch. Connect on LinkedIn. Send the resource you mentioned. Respond thoughtfully to something they share. Invite them to an event that genuinely fits. Send a personal note. Share something useful. Call when there is a real reason to talk.
Different touchpoints serve different purposes. Social content creates awareness. Email can add depth. A phone call adds humanity. Live events create shared experience.
The goal is not to appear everywhere simply to be seen. It is to show up consistently enough that people understand who you are, what you value, and whether they can trust you.
Before your next follow-up, ask:
Am I adding value, or merely asking for attention?
Does this interaction deepen the relationship?
Am I giving trust enough time to develop?
A relationship rarely changes because of one perfectly timed message. More often, it grows through a series of small, credible moments.
The first conversation opens the door. What you do afterward determines whether trust has room to walk through it.

You’re already having the conversations.
The only question is:
Why aren’t they turning into revenue?
Until you solve that, growth will always be harder than it needs to be.
